It is common for different manufacturers of insulin and other drugs to vary the dose to quite an extent. If it works and you are covered by your insurance I would not worry about it too much.

Started with cancer, then the treatment for that gave me other problems...

If will take more than a week to have any effect on you, keep taking it until your next a1c test or if that is too far away I would suggest at least 12 weeks, then go back to your GP and let him know...

All medicines can have a harmful effect, but as you have been on it for so long I would not worry too much, the effect of you NOT taking your meds is always going to be greater.

I wouldn't worry too much about measuring levels too much unless you are using tablets such as glicazide or insulin to control your levels. If you are using diet or metformin then follow the advice...
