rapid rise and fall after eating
I've been monitoring my glucose levels for a week. My doctor ordered an A1c test due to my complaints of excessive thirst, frequent urination, and dizziness/light headedness. I also have excessive hunger and sugar cravings. MyA1c came back normal (5.6), but I've been testing my glucose levels to see what sort of spikes I may be having.
I was surprised that my blood glucose levels mostly hang out in the 70s, though I sometimes dip into the 60s. But my post meal pattern is that I might read in the high 70s before eating, then I have a peak at 30 minutes (160 or so), and then I go below my pre-meal reading within an hour. Sometimes I'll have a second spike at 90 minutes (not as high as the first), but I'm always back to normal at2 hours. Can anyone tell me what this might mean? I should also note that I start getting dizzy and very hungry about 90 minutes to2 hours after I eat. Is this normal? Or does it look like blood sugar fluctuations are problematic or responsible for why I feel so hungry and lousy? |
Fluctuations are normal, glucose are flying around in your blood unable to go anywhere until the meds take them out so don't test before the 2 hours.
Drinking water is good. This with protect your kidneys from sugar and protein damage, should help with your headache as well but if you find the frequency in urinating a problem cut down the volume to half. If u get hungry a lot after your meals I find eating beef jerky useful as it's chewy, tastes good and low in volume and carbs. Brown rice crackers with dips like hummus or beetroot ect . Always look at the sugar content in every thing you buy though and good luck 😀 |
I should also mention that if you've only been resting for a week and feeling dizzy is that your body is adjusting to you normalizing your sugar, your mean may be normal but sugars remaining in your body for longer
