61 yrs old, type 2 diagnosis...very new

Found out yesterday I'm diabetic. Put on Glimepiride twice a day and told to lose weight.

As far as eating...I'm so confused about what to eat, how much to eat. Yes, I know lay off the sugar and limit carbs, but the amount of carbs listed on charts I have seen, seems way to high for me.

In the pass, I lost a great deal of weight, but had to limit my carbs to 20-30 carbs in a day. That is far less than 40-60 carbs at a meal!

Should I go down to the 20-30 carbs in a day to lose weight? I'm extremely fat at 390 pounds. I know by following that low carb diet, I will lose weight fast and after three days have no cravings. If I eat over 30 carbs in a day, I have uncontrollable cravings for more food. I'm highly addicted to carbs it seems. Help, please?

Welcome to the Forum! :)

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

My husband and I are attending a diabetic nutrition class. They said to lose weight to keep meals at 30-45 g carbs and snacks around 15 g carbs. What you may want to do is to keep a food journal or use myfitnesspal.com. You may be eating more carbs then you think.
