highs/lows

I'm new here, but I wanted to share. I've been diabetic for 35 years and insulin dependent. I was on Lantus and Humalog for years until one of the endos change me to Humulin R500. Since I've been on it, I have lost the good control I once had. I have done trial and error with my food recently and have eliminated ALL GRAINS. I have gained good control back again. Hoping this was the problem. I could not believe this insulin is 1300+ per vial. Unreal!!!

Additional: now that I am semi retired, I started eating the way I am most comfortable. Brunch around 10-11 am and dinner between 5-6 with a snack befor bed. The Humulin R 500 is taken at both meals, so I'm actually taking less daily. My blood glucose is now much steadier and in control. I got to see my endo's colleague and he okayed it. My A1C this past month was 7.7 and hopefully next time will be lower.

I wish I was that way, my A1c level was 10.5. I was recently in the hospital in DKA, plus my stomach is inflamed and my ustafakis is also inflamed as well. I have a lot of problems from the diabeties.

Apepe7505, how long have you been diabetic? Have you seen a dietician? Are you ready to change what you eat for the rest of your life-to save your life?
