Brief summary...(since I haven't posted here in quite a while) found out I was t2 in August 2010, when I lost my right foot to gangrene. Things got better. Was on metformin, 2x a day. Things were ok. By June 2013, I was starting to feel kind of nauseated all the time. Had a bladder infection, possibly reacted badly to the antibiotic and ended up in the hospital near kidney failure. Got a bit better, two weeks later no strength, weak and sick. Back to the hospital. Hypercalcemia. Enlarged lymph glands and a mass on my right lung. Two (!) lung biopsies...sarcoidosis. Thus, prednisone. Varying from 40 to 10 mg daily, currently at 15. Since last July. And insulin, not metformin.

For several months my bs has been running high (over 300). I've told my doctor, but my A1c last week was 6.8, which seems odd, considering my readings. I've also tested the meter, and all was ok. And if they were faulty high readings, the insulin I used should have caused me to feel really bad. (oddly, never had side effects of the highs.)

Last week he started me back on metformin, so I've just started that.

One thing that really puzzled me. A few weeks ago I checked before supper, a reading of 118. Took my insulin as usual. Started eating. Got feeling sweaty, a little shakey. Not much. (supper was spaghetti with meat sauce, corn on the cob, salad). Ate a bit more spaghetti. (it's been a while). Felt sweatier. Checked my sugar, it was 71. This was at least 15 minutes after I had started eating. I've never had that happen. And I've taken insulin and ended up for some reason not eating (only once or twice). For me, that was a very low reading, especially WHILE I was eating.

Hopefully things will get back in line again. I don't like taking prednisone, but it controls the hypercalcemia.

Sorry that you were having so much trouble. It sounds as though things have leveled out for you. Keep in mind that it takes about 15 minutes for the insulin to kick it, a little faster if the shot is taken in the stomach and that it also take the food about 15 minutes as well.

Just keep in mind that the Prednisone is a corticosteroid "steroid" and that steroids raise blood glucose levels in most people.
