I've been using Metformin for nearly two months, 500 mg twice a day. I haven't noticed any lower back pain but it seems plausible. I have noticed some joint pain that's getting better. The GI symptoms are also getting better. FINALLY. But, yeah, talk to your doctor if you're concerned about it.

Maybe check your kidney function and ketone levels. Sometimes low back pain could be kidneys.

I thought it was just me I too am newly diagnosed type-2 and on Metformin 500 twice a day with hot table lower back pain. I showed my PCP where it is & she said it was too low to be kidney related.

I just started Metformin 500mg twice a day about 2 weeks ago. I’ve had an ache in the middle of my back, as well as wicked leg cramps since starting the medicine. I thought it might be the Lisinopril that my doctor started me on along with the Metformin, so I stopped it for a few days and just kept taking the Metformin. I still had the leg cramps and back aches so I am certain it’s the Metformin. I hope it lessens over time.

I too experienced back pain but it was also in my shoulders and legs.

Dr did blood test. He told me it is gout. It was terrible pain all over that was worsened because he put me on a diuretic which only amplified the gout.

I am with a new dr now and she has me in a different medicine and the pain is much better. Going in today for a neuropathy scan. I am really nervous about it.

I take 500mg of Metformin and have a back pain. Had injured my back 20years ago and thought that injury has continued. Did not know Metformin promotes back pain . I use Acupressure Massage Mats I bought on Amazon.com and get good relief for my back without taking medecine or need to apply ointment.
