Diagnosed with Type 2 but feel fine

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but I feel just fine. All of a sudden I'm taking Metformin, Statin, Lisinopril, and aspirin. I am taking my blood sugars twice a day and needing all of these follow up appointments. I'm finding hard to believe I was healthy yesterday but in need of all these meds and checks the next day. I'm a little over weight but not obese. Can this happen suddenly?

Welcome to the Forum! :)

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, as they may help you a lot. Diabetes doesn't happen overnight. What was your lab A1c?

Good luck with your control and management.

They were helpful, thank you. I am just a little surprised by all of this. I just went to the doctor for a routine Gyn visit and had some routine labs. Next thing I know I'm seeing my PCP, a diabetes educator, and eye doctor. My A1c is 8.3. All I gotta do it lose about 30lbs, eat better, and exercise. Seems pretty manageable!

An A1c of 8.3% indicates an average blood sugar of ~192 mg/dl. Loose the weight as the doctor suggests, consume a better diet, exercise and get the blood glucose readings and average down to below 140 mg/dl (100-120 would be great) and I guarantee that you will feel much better.

Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. A diabetes diet is not about restrictions - it's how everyone should eat - lean proteins, low fat, unprocessed carbs from fruits and vegetables and plenty of exercise. Good luck with your control and management.
