Who else is on the MiniMed paradigm pump from Medtronic?

My new insulin pump arrives Monday and I'm excited!!!

I know it seems weird that I'm excited, but I've been a diabetic for 10 years and for the whole time I was diagnosed WRONG! My new doctors are working their best to get me better...so I will be on the pump from now on and it will be no more injections of Levemir and Novolog.

Who else takes the MiniMed paradigm pump? How long you've been on it and what are your thoughts on it?

Hi cfoster00,

Congrats on making the decision to use an insulin pump! I've been using the Medtronic Paradigm 522 for 6 years now. I love it and would never go back to multiple daily injections. My bg & HGA1C control has improved greatly, and I feel much more free on a pump.

My #1 piece of advice to a new pump user: always test your blood shortly after inserting a new infusion set (a couple hours?). Sometimes, the cannula kinks or isn't placed properly, and if this isn't caught within the first few hours, can lead to very high bs.

Don't let this scare you, it's just something to be aware of.

Good luck with your pump!

Thank you so much for that info!
I just started Pump training yesterday and already I've seen improvement. I'm not on insulin yet - they have me practicing on saline until next Thursday. But I've been following the Bolus Wizard's recommendations and using the insulin pen for injections - my sugars before/after have been in my target range! I'm really impressed. I've NEVER been in my range. My sugars have always been a yo-yo

Does it hurt to insert cannula? Do u change it daily?

Can u jog or brisk walk with it in place?

Sometimes I feel like my Bloodsugars are really low; but when I test I find they're are quite high. At first I thought that was weird but after some education I've come to realize it's all in the blood and not on my cells. Insulin helps a lot in that case. I recheck within a couple of hours.
