weight gain
Is there a better insulin that won't make me gain so much weight? I'm on 100 units of lantus daily & I've gained 6 lbs in the last 2 wks. Any advice would be appreciated

Also have pancreatitis so victoza is not an option.

Most any insulin will cause some weight gain. My long term insulin is Levemir and I also take a short acting insulin called Novolog. I count carbs due to having to take the Novolog. This has helped me not only with my insulin dosage but to loose weight as well. I have lost about 60 lbs so far. Maybe the carb counting would help you as well.

Thanks. So how many carbs do u stay under, daily?
|
When I first started I tried to limit each meal to 30 carbs per meal. Currently breakfast is still about 30, but lunch and dinner have risen. That is most likely why I am not loosing as much weight as I did before. I'm also not walking as much as I did then. At prime weight loss I was walking 10k steps per day. I suppose that I need to implement the walking back into my routine. I still have about 30 lbs to go. ;)

insulin will always make you gain weight - that's the vicious cycle we see in T2s on insulin who also need to lose weight.
are you also on Metformin? this might reduce the amount of daily needed insulin (by decreasing the amount of glycogen released by the liver) and you might want to talk to your Dr about it. Another option would be Symlin which is another hormone injection that slows gastric emptying - a lot of T2s lose weight on Symlin. You take it before meals. Lastly, good ol' exercise and calorie reduction always works for weight loss - there's just no way to get around it. |
I have heard the same things about it be4 I have started insulin... I was so scared to put on weight.. Cuz I know that once I put on lots of weight my psychology would broke... Then I decided to put it in logic because I wanna survive a long time.. Life is good.. Now I realize as long as I take care of what I eat and a lil bit exercise no such a thing...
