high morning sugar

I started insulin about two months ago and overall I am adapting. Am I the only one that has higher blood sugar readings in the morning than I do at bed time. I currently take lantas and humalog. The lantas is once a day in the morning.

No, you are not the only one. Take a look at Dawn Phenomenon.

what Danny said - this sounds like a typical case of Dawn Phenom to me. talk to your Dr about insulin adjustments to accommodate. this is why I like being on a pump - I am able to increase my basal rate slightly for the early morning hours during Dawn Phenom.

Google efficiency curves for your basal and you'll see why your morning sugar is high. Switch to levemir which is the most even basal so far AND take it twice per day at 12hr intervals. Set alarms on your BG meter or mobile phone. For more even curves do three basals per day with the advantage of having more control cause you can bump up one dose higher where you need it, like overnight.
