I just downloaded the GB app (free version) and am disappointed that there is no log category for carbs. The ad description says there is, so I am wondering: do you just add the carb count under "food" or am I missing something. Thx.

Yes, please reference the "GB Help" thread for food input, it works very well for me. I use it at least three times a day. :)
