Do I have Diabetes?????

I had gestational diabetes... So I have the meter. My daughter is now almost 7. I'm wondering what SHOULD my BG reading be?? It's always around 200 in the morning, no matter what I do, if I eat right, if I exercise... Doesn't matter, it's always around 200. I've searched for an answer in print as to what my reading should be but I can't find a definitive answer. Can anyone help me??

Your morning reading should be under 100. You should see your doctor ASAP and discuss this with your doctor. You may have diabetes, it could be something else. You could think you're eating right and actually not be. There are a lot of factors. Ultimately, you need to talk to your doctor.

Definitely see your doctor ASAP. Do you have other symptoms...thirsty, frequent urination, tired and low energy?

Buy a new meter to see if your numbers change. Be well!

Highly recommend getting an appt with a younger endocrinologist. Your PCP can refer, or you can self-refer. They are more open to some of the new treatments and drugs if that's what you need. Depending on where you live it can take at least 2 months to get in. In the meantime, I highly recommend cutting way back on carbs and going with a high protein, high fiber diet to try to get BS levels down. Very damaging to heart & other organs to have BS that high every day. A good Endo should be able to help you get that leveled out.

If your fasting and it's 200 yes

when you first wake up = fasting blood glucose

normal FASTING blood glucose (haven't consumed anything for at least 8 hours) is 70-100mg/dL so if you're constantly in the 200s upon waking up, I would get yourself to your Dr ASAP.

if you do have T2, your Dr can give you a better understanding of where your numbers should be when you wake up, before and after you eat, etc. but it should never be above 180mg/dL, even after you eat.

as you know, gestational diabetes puts you at higher risk for T2 down the road.

the fact that your daughter is now 7 could also mean that your meter is not calibrated and if you're using the same test strips, they could be expired.

but regardless, I would see your Dr.
