My name is Eileen & my 8 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 two weeks ago. It appears that we caught it fairly early (no ketones or dka and A1C was 8.9). He is handling it well but we feel like we have a new baby again. He was running too low, especially at night, so doc adjusted lantus & Novolog down. Going to pump class next month to start gathering info. Any tips on anything appreciated !

Eileen & son;
Welcome to the Forum! :) Self education is one of the keys in dealing with diabetes. Read everything that you can on your son's condition. Start with the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, as they will help him as well. Learn to count carbs, and since you mentioned pump class, they will emphasize this as well. Good luck with your son's control and management, I wish you both well. |
Eileen, I am new here too so I have no great advice to give but I am an "old" mother and will be here if you need to talk or "vent" to anyone. I'll be sending well wishes your way. Michele
