A1C Average

I'm wondering if any type 1 diabetics would like to share their A1C results. I'm finding it difficult to get any specific info from my doctor as to what an average A1C is for the well controlled type 1 diabetics. I understand everyone will be different but I'm curious if I fall into a "normal" range or not.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to answer :)

If you can top this you are doing great!

From what I've gathered an A1C of 5.2 could be a risky goal for most type 1's and I would be surprised if many type 1's can keep that up...is it just me who feels this way?

An A1c of 5.2% is a risky goal and takes much discipline, but can be accomplished as referenced in the posted thread. I am not there and probably never will be. However, I am working very hard to establish an A1c between 5.5% and 5.9%. So far the best that I can do is 6.3%, but that is considerably better than the beginning 11.3%.

Thank you Dano! I appreciate the info. Can I ask do you have many lows (3.9 or lower)? I find a 6.5 to 7 is the best I can do comfortably...and this means rarely having lows (maybe once every 3 - 6 months).

This past month I had two, one during the night at 54 mg/dL (3 mmol/L) and one before breakfast (fasting) at 68 mg/dL (3.8 mmol/L). Both were most-likely miscalculations on my part. I count carbs and bolus for the carbs, which is basically my version of the pump using multiple daily injections (MDI). The better calculations, on my part, return better blood glucose numbers. Fortunately, when hypo's occur at night I awake and now with experience I know that there is a reason for the awakening.

Anything under 6.0 is normal. My specialist is happy if I am under 7.0. My numbers are between 6.1 and 6.8. My goal is to get below 6. I have been Type 1 for 20 years. I have been using the pump for 6 years and am very happy with it.

I'm going to disagree with this statement. My lab sheet says that the Normal Range is 4.2% to 6.3%.

My A1C was 12 back in sep of 2011, but I really started to keep my diet and last time I checked was in Jan of 2012 and it was 9. But the normal should be under 7
