I'm 20, have had type 1 diabetes now for 8 years and just started on the pump finally after all this time. I've recently started thinking and researching type 1 diabetics and pregnancy and have been kind of nervous. I'm not married or planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but I have a serious boyfriend and I know only time will tell. I guess what I'm looking for is advice more than anything and how to cope? I want my boyfriend to understand and not feel so worried when that time comes around.

When the time is right you will know. Worrying so much will lead you into a unhealthy life and a confused battle. Let the river flow and if there are any obstacles in the way move around it or fight it. Does your bf know about you being a diabetic ? And how is he treating you? You do not want to have a baby with someone, who's not understanding and trustworthy... Period. Look at it this way... Being a diabetic gives you a lead about who would be the best candidate for your child and who'd you want to be with for the rest of your life. Have a talk with him when the time comes... if he listens... go through with it & shoot! Being a diabetic and pregnant isn't hard... its all in your head and motivation is a great cheat . Why is it very dangerous? It is not dangerous for most if it is preplanned and levels are good with no complications. Education and your Doctors are the key to success. I have a very healthy 15 year old and I was 24 when I had him with 6yrs of being diabetic. I am also still healthy!
