Hello!!

Hi my name is Vicky and I am 30. I was diagnosed with t1 at the age of 17.

At the moment my control is not the best.

I would like some help to figure out i:c ratio and how to count how many carbs are in a meal/something I eat.

I havent seen a doctor in a while and that is because I wouldnt trust him. Additionally he moved to another country a couple of months ago.

I live in a small town and there is no other doctor here.

I plan to go and visit a doctor in a city but that would take a month or so.

How do you count carbs?

When I took humalog I knew 1 unit would bring my levels down by 50. With apidra now I am kinda lost. I cant figure out if its the same.

Vicky;

Welcome to the Forum! :)

Carb Counting is addressed in the T2 Section, See the thread Carb Counting 101. You can also do a tag search for "Carb Counting". A Nutritionist can help you as well. You really do need to find a good Endocrinologist he/she can help with the High Blood Sugar Correction Factor (CF) and the Carb Coverage Ratio (CCR) (C:I).

Basically, this approach to T1 is used by people on the "pump", but it can be used by those using Multiple Daily Injections (MDI). It works very well, my son and I have been using this for several years.

Hey thanks a lot! I read many articles, and the ones you linked, very helpful, thanks! I was wondering if I can find online a food chart with carbs. Like listing every food and how many carb grams it contains.
