A1c Calculations

If you are like me and want to see how you are doing with lowering your A1c, but can't wait the recommended 90 days: Go to the GlucoseBuddy; My Info pull down and look at the average BG value, write this number down. Mine is currently 139.1 mg/dl.

Using equation: A1c = (Bg + 46.7) / 28.7 you can calculate your current A1c (approximate).

Therefore; A1c = (139.1 + 46.7) / 28.7 {my A1c (approximate) is currently 6.47%}

Note: This figure is an approximation and is not intended to take the place of actual lab results.

Very interesting--can you tell us where you came upon this formula? I've not heard of it before. Any reference or link would be helpful.

Thanks--

The formula is/was at the bottom of the A1c Calculator on this web page. If I remember correctly the equation was shown after you input an average blood sugar into the calculator. Another reference and here is just the calculator link by the same author.

You may want to use this calculator for reference. There are several on line. I hope the information helps!

I notice that most of these formulas expect mg/DL readings for BSL which is only used in the USA. They are of little value to the rest of the world that use mmol/l when calculating BSL and HbA1C.

For the rest of the World:

Average Blood Glucose in mmol/L = 1.583 * A1c - 2.52.

Please explain DCCT-A1c

In GBA1c calculation the A1c results are shown as DCCT-A1c.

I have been login my BG for about a month (172 counts). Based on "MyGraphs" my average BG is 125.6. If I use this number for on line calculator out side GB or Diabetes Chart my HbA1c is 6.0-6.1. However, GBA1c calculaton shows DCCT-A1c as 5.7

Which A1c is closure to lab A1C?
