Metformin

I've been taking metformin for a month already and still at least once or twice a week get the stomach craps followed by frequent trips to the restroom. Does anybody still get the side effects weeks, months or even years into the metformin???

Here are some links. Many people prefer the extended release.

Did your doctor have you increase your dosage in tiers? Mine had me increase 500 mg each week. I had no problems until I was taking metformin for over a year. I take 1000 mg daily. My problem was daytime gut bombs. I split my split 1000 in half again and took half at breakfast and half at dinner. Worked well. Zero gut bombs. Currently, I take extended release (750mg) with evening meal and 250 mg (1000 mg split in 4) and that works well too. My numbers are much better, but I'm not sure I can attribute that to this new regimen since I've also lost about 20 lbs. I can say though that the abdominal issues are gone.

Yes, for 4 years until my doc took me off and put me on insulin full time. Also, had the same trouble with two brands of insulin. Got that changed too. All good now.

I have been on Metformin since May. And in the last month have experienced burning in my throat. Just wondering if any one has ever had this condition.

covergirl 12-11-2013 11:23 PM

Have been on Metformin since May thus year. Had no problem until a couple of months ago throat started burning thought it was Acid Reflux but doctor has decided to take me off the Metformin and see if I can control my count with diet and exercise. So far doing good. Counting carbs. I say if you can do without the drugs go far it.

I learned with this medication take it 15 minutes after you eat no more cramps and no more trips to the bathroom

Ok my doctor took me off the Metformin and the burning in my throat stopped. Now I have to control it with diet and exercise which is very hard. My numbers have gone up but my doc told me as long as I stay under 180 I'm good but that still seems high to me. Seems like everything I eat effects the numbers. Trying not to stress over it.

I take a fiber supplement 2 in the morning 2 at night. I take methocelulose and it helps I can go 2-3 weeks without problems before I would have issues every 2-3 days
