Brand new to this
Hello. About a 2 months ago during a check up I was told to do fasting blood work. 2 days later I was calked and told that my A1C was 8.4.. Since then I have dropped 20lbs from 205 to 185. I am very active seeing how I have been in the Army for 13 years. I have no family history of this terrible thing, and unless I am using the test equipment wrong, I am never over 90 on my glucose. I am seeking any kind of knowledge that I can. Last week I did fasting blood work again and received a call today my A1c is 5.2.. Could I have been misdiagnosed?

You could have been misdiagnosed, but I doubt it. The weight loss, active lifestyle and the control that you have are the main factors of your success. Take a look at this website. If you can meet the criteria for normal blood sugars, congratulations, you may have beaten this beast before it got it's hooks in you. Good luck and stay on top of your condition.

So this morning I had two pancakes and some syrup. Blood went up to 101 and now it is 87. What's really going on.
|
Two 6" pancakes is 44 carbs. Was the syrup sugar free, light or regular? What was the fasting blood sugar reading?
|
Two regular sized pancakes regular syrup. But the is no guessing. I had lunch two hours ago. Prior reading was 99; about five mins ago it was 175. I had beef with broccoli chicken with string beans, and a cup of Chow mein. So I guess something is out of whack. Ugh defeat!

The cup of Chow-men was probably the "carbiest" of your lunch items. Good luck.

New to GB app, have ? - can use help, please
I am a fairly new diabetic - less than 2 years, and just ran across these different BG apps from the App Store. I've downloaded quite a few of them, thinking that it would simplify the glucose tracking. Until yesterday afternoon (CST), I had been frustrated with them all. Then, came across GB, and fell in love with it!!:D
I also downloaded an earlier version of GB (version 3.0) earlier in the day, and started to input some BG levels starting on June 1, 2011. I added my info and got it current, then added my medications. Now, I need to know how to upload all those logs (created in v.3.0) to the newest update, v 3.6.5. Is there an easy fix to this, or do I have to manually retype them into the updated version??? Any help will be appreciated. You can respond here, or use my email address. Thanks in advance for any help I receive. Juli Grubb |
Juli; Welcome to the Forum! :)
I am still trying to figure out how you downloaded a GB (version 3.0) and a GB (version 3.6.5) from the App Store yesterday. At any rate, if the logs were created in GB (version 3.0) and if you updated to GB (version 3.6.5) your logs should still be there. This is assuming that your did or will backup you iPhone information, to iTunes, prior to the install of the new GB (version 3.6.5) app. |
I have made a bone head move. 2 weeks ago I met with a certified diabetic diet expert. I misunderstood her instructions about how many carbs I could eat. I was pretty sure she said 60 a day total... Well after my check up this morning she clarified 60 per meal. For two weeks I have be only taking in about 55 carbs a day. I was so upset these last few weeks because I had energy, and was hungry as a hostage all the time.

Soooo confused today. For Lunch I had 4 of the best corn tortilla tacos that I have ever had. After that I had a medium butterfinger blizard from DQ. Check my glucose about 1.5 hours later it was 101. Before lunch it was 94. After dinner about 20 mins ago it was 89. I have not taken any meds today I.e metformin, and glyburide. Is it possible that I am checking my glucose wrong?

Had a spike today after I had eaten a double qtr pounder and medium fries from mcdonalds today. Went up to 102... So I have made another appt with my doctor to see if I was misdiagnosed. Now I can't negate the importance of my first diagnosis A1c being 8.4 however, I am curious as to if they may have done something wrong. Or if the immediate 22 lbs weight loss gave me another opportunity.

The weight loss will make a world of difference. :)

So I have been eating sniker bars, and M&Ms all day. Even had a soda. All before lunch; BG never got over 98 all day. I get home and have a slice of pizza and it shoots up to 160. I guess bread affects my BG more than anything.
|
Starchy carbs affect mine as well. Have you tried pasta yet? The pasta and bread combination is a big spike for me. The same goes for potatoes, french fries especially.
|
I did have some chow mien from panda express. There was a small spike. Bread is the worst. Any amount puts me through the roof. One slice or 10 does not matter. I can eat iced cream, candy bars, potato chips etc with no problems.
|
My Dr said no fries, potato chips, choco bars, my BG this morning from just eating toast reads 282 i'm new to this as of the 21st August, taking lots of meds, as also got high blood pressure, i'm sticking to the diet Dr said, wow going to miss my sweets : )
