Sites to inject other than abdomen and back.

Hi, I'm using a MiniMed since 9 years now, and have blisters on my abs and bums from the injections. I was thinking of injecting on my thighs for sometime, has anyone tried this or anybody has a better suggestion on rotation of sites?

Thanks,

Muzlim

Just to add the reactions (allergy) from the glue on the stubs...

Thanks!

Somewhere on this forum, some the members were previously talking about what to do for the reaction to the glue, with good results. You might try a search for the information. I don't pump, therefore, I am not much help in that respect.

I use pump and always put into my thighs. It hurts too much anywhere else I've tried. I think the only drawback to this is the insulin takes longer to work rather than in the stomach area, but I have had no problems. Good luck!

I put my site on my stomach. I also have the mini med and i think it works great on the stomach! 😃

I use the pump on my thighs, hips and bottom. The only issue I have with using it on my thighs is that I can't sleep on the same side. Good luck with new positioning.

Don't know if this would work for your reaction but when I inject on my stomach I clean with benOin instead of plain alcohol. I have problems w the stub sweating off and the benzoin leaves a sticky film that helps the stub adhere. Maybe that would protect your skin from the glue? Ask your physician - it's expensive but he might get it covered by your ins since you have an allergy. Good luck!

To add to Jims3400...you could also try IV Prep pads (same size as alcohol swabs) and are very inexpensive. You can get them through Medtronic.

For reactions to the glue you could try Cavalon No-Sting barrier spray or swabs. My son is allergic to all adhesives and this works great!! Puts a barrier between your skin and adhesive.

have been on a paradigm pump for about 8 years. Have somewhat same issues, catheter in the same area takes it tole.
Have changed catheter to orbit 90 and am using the back. didn't think I would like this but everything seems very comfortable and site change works well. even a little less insulin

Check the omnipod website for their map of other places you can put your infusion sites. : ) I happily insert minimed sites on my hips, thighs, butt and back (the part considered the 'muffin top' works best for me) and I generally dont use my stomach because I think it hurts the most.
Good luck!

I've been on pump for 16 yrs im a young 47 yr oldale and for the past 2 yrs I've had alot of issues w high sugars due to all the scar tissue damage from my sites. I have very little fat and can't place my silhouettes in a comfortable area anymore. I just stated taking shots again (Lantus & Apidra) ,this weekend :-( Wish there was another alternative ! I'm having to take a total of 9 shots a day, so far. This is gonna suck !
Looking for options !!!
Thank you

I have been on a pump for the last 12 years. The only area I have used has been in the belly. I have also looked into injecting elsewhere because of scar tissue. I did not know you could inject on the thighs. Thanks for the advice.

During the summer months I place the site on my thighs simply because I love to dive and swim and I just don't like to see a port cover on my belly. Plus it makes me feel some what normal again. I use my side occasionally and have see a lady in the store with her pump on her left upper arm like she was carrying a iPod.

I had that problem when I used alcohol pads.. I switched to IV prep and I stopped having it... But I use my stomach and my bottom for sites never got brave enough to try anything else!
