I like apples and peanut butter, blue diamond almond breeze milk on a cup of the new Total honey almond flax cold cereal. Or 1/2 cup great grains ( all flavors are yummy) watch the portion on those grate grains. Bare naked (like most of them) also I love the new to me Flaxmilk . I have to stay away from cow milk coz it gives me (cramps)gas also goats milk is lovely( raised on fresh goats milk) peanut butter smoothly get a basic favorite smoothly recipe and add the peanut butter instead of the other main ingredient. If I get tired of PB I have yogurt I have dannon lite because it's less sugar and salt. I like granola like bare naked About a helping table spoon and I like a little fruit with my yogurt. I get the large container and divy it up for the week. Because I like to add my on imagination I get vanilla flavor so I can add my own, it was hard to figure out a breakfast that was not eggs and bacon and grits, I love oatmeal and fix on the weekends with my grand children they love raisins and cinnamon with brown sugar , I use the Splenda kind. They love it with a little of the sugar free French vanilla cream on the oatmeal too. "International delight" just a little it's yummy.

Oh yes I forgot a good protein quick bar is the cliff bar that will stick with me, I eat at 6:00am and my break is at 9:00 .so if that helps , I like bagels and locks and peanut butter (cruchy only) smooth PB gags me :P , I have had to swap around to get a little change. I use to go with the same thing all the time like instant oatmeal or Cheerios (honey nut) couse I knew this was the thing that didn't spike my sugar but I found I can balance alittle veriety now and then.

Fruits are meant to be high in sugars specially tropical fruits but I've gone through a naturist fast in Mexico and surprisingly my sugar levels got completely stabilized with no medicine. The tip is to detox your body from animal toxins. Very little eggs and nearly no meet. Therefore nuts are good to combine specially with acid fruits. That is another thing. If you combine fruits they have to be either acid or sweet. For example: apple banana pear or grapefruit orange and pineapple with almonds or cashews. Fruits for breakfast and one fruit before every meal helps you to stabilize your glucose. Of course if you combine this with exercise you will notice an improvement. The naturists theory is that fruit sugars are need little insulin to be processed and have a lot of nourishing properties that help your body

So surprised at all these breakfasts. I rarely eat fruit because I am trying to keep bg level below 120 2 hour post-prandial. About twice a month I enjoy berries with breakfast.

Most mornings I have eggs with sausage or bacon, sometimes a small biscuit (10 carbs).

I am Type 2.

Any suggestions? I don't want generic answers like "ones low in carbs and sugar" - I know that already. But if anyone has a morning favorite I would love to know!

I usually have the Fibre 1 cereals, high in fiber to help slow the carb breakdown process and doesn't leave you wanting something else 20 minutes later, and it tastes good

I too struggle with breakfast. I'm not really hungry that early in the morning. I really, really, really don't like eggs, nor do I care for most dry cereals. What I've finally found that works for me is an 6 oz carton of Dannon Light and Fit Yogurt (any flavor, but my favorites are vanilla, coconut, blueberry and raspberry), along with about a 1/3-1/2 c. berries, (again blueberry, raspberry or blackberries, or sliced or diced strawberries works really well too) and about a 1/4 c. granola. Our local grocery store has several bulk varieties that include nuts and sometimes raisins/craisins or dates. Its quick, which is important to me, and can be taken to work with me if I don't get time to eat before I have to leave. And its yummy, which is also important. I have trouble making myself eat things that I don't like the taste of.

I also keep a six-pack of Glucerna chocolate shakes in the fridge at work, just in case. They make a pretty good, quick breakfast, too.

turningmeditator 03-30-2012 01:34 PM

Greek Yogurt and nuts

I usually have 1 cup of Greek yogurt with 2 tablespoons of nuts. Greek yogurt has fewer carbs 5-7 vs conventional yogurt 13-15. I add raisins or fresh fruit when I want to add carbs.

jwdiehl 04-15-2012 05:52 PM

I have what's called shakeology it's glutin free and it's right in the carb amount you need it also has a good amount of carbs an I get it from http://www.shakeology.com/jwdiehl. That site has a ton of info on it and this would be your healthiest meal of the day.

cafiorenza 08-05-2012 01:53 PM

I am not a big breakfast eater but I usually have two rice cakes with peanut butter, two reduced fat cheese sticks and small banana. I am full until lunch and after meal number is great. Now my nutritionist said that you don't have to eat breakfast foods for breakfast......

vjykmr89 08-18-2012 09:03 AM

Start with Glass off cold water > Oatmeal with Cinnamon > Drink tea....
Because any kind of breakfast activeate your metabolism.

I assume that you are speaking of "Hummus", if that is the case, then you can make your own. Here is one recipe. There are several on-line, I prefer the one with roasted red pepper and a little spicy, if you can find it.

Breakfast is the first meal of the day,it should be healthy and complete.I typically eat frozen meals. I too am not a fan of eggs or oatmeal. And cereal and milk just rockets my stuff up. Oh and I don't like eating right when I get up either. So I usually warm up a meal when I get to the office. Yes they have higher sodium and stuff but I know exactly how many carbs, protein, and calories I'm eating and that's the main thing.

sarahjones 10-11-2012 06:10 AM

I eat 2 eggs, 2 pieces of low cal wheat bread, 2 pieces of bacon but sometime I eat just fruits and some times I just drink milk .

Medic72 10-26-2012 01:49 PM

I used to eat the Kashi cereals until they increased the per cup sugar amounts, so I switched back to plain Cheerios. On other days I'll also eat 2 eggs, 1slice multigrain toast (low sugar brand), 2 slices bacon with either coffee or tea.

Plenty of substitutes for potatoes at breakfast

Try this for a low-carb alternative to hash brown potatoes. Get a jicama (it's a root vegetable about the size of a coconut) and peel off the tough outer skin. The flesh is white, crisp, and slightly sweet. Shred the meat of the jicama and blot with a paper towel to dry it. It can then be sautéed in a skillet with a tiny amount of oil or butter until browned on one side. Flip and brown the other side. Jicama will retain its crispiness even better than potatoes. My non-diabetic wife loved it!

Next, I live it Texas and there is a brand of flour tortillas named Mission. They have two sizes of carb-balanced tortillas. The little ones are only 6 grams of carbs (net) so you can make a couple of awesome egg, bacon and cheese breakfast tacos, a little salsa for a kick, and enjoy without guilt. Fewer carbs than two slices of whole wheat toast too. Don't want cheese or bacon in your taco? Try chopped sweet yellow peppers, or diced sun-dried tomatoes, or other veggie ingredient.

Last, be a little non-traditional and have a hot bowl of soup for breakfast. It will warm your innards and get you through the morning until lunch. :D

rshell77 12-09-2012 12:42 PM

I eat the same thing every morning half a banana and 1 serving of oat bran or oatmeal unless its race day then I have 2 servings of oats 3 hrs prior to the race but I see that you can't eat oats or the bran. How about cottage cheese and some fruit.

reeviint 01-05-2013 06:46 AM

Some ideas for snacks... nuts (almonds are one of the best), cheese, dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher), pork rinds/scratchings, cold meats, boiled eggs, peanut butter.Des Moines Weight Loss

I peeled a granny smith apple and then cut it into slices. Then I took a little peanut butter (1 or 2 tblsp), a small amount of low fat cream cheese (1 or 2 tblspn) and a little cinnamon. I mixed it all together and then spread it on the apple slices. It was really yummy and gave me a great start of the day with the protein in it.

This sounds delicious! I'm going to try it tomorrow.

type1rachelle 02-01-2013 09:45 PM

my most common breakfasts:

two eggs, dry, with hot sauce
bowl of gluten free honey rice puffins with almond milk
bowl of gluten free instant oatmeal with peanut butter and sliced banana
slice of gluten free toast (Udi's) with peanut butter and cinnamon
sugarless applesauce muffin from the coffee shop
cup of trail mix - peanuts, raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and cranberries
sometimes I'll have something like a melon pan from the Japanese bakery near my office - that's a treat type of thing though.

of note - oatmeal is not supposed to have gluten in it! if you're eating highly processed stuff like Quaker then yes, it's not guaranteed gluten free since it's processed on the same equipment as wheat products, but Red Mills makes a wonderful guaranteed gluten free instant oatmeal. also, steel cut oats are generally gluten free as well, but take longer to cook (I throw them in the slow cooker the night before).

also, I do not have ciliac, but try to limit my gluten intake for health reasons.

4 ready to eat turkey sausage links and a cinnamon roll protein shake = 10 carbs and makes me happy and very full

kprete 02-03-2013 02:59 PM

I have a protein shake with unsweetened almond milk and sometimes 1/2 banana. But even with this very low carb breakfast...prebanana...I have to take 1 unit of Humalog to keep my after-breakfast sugars down.

corbo 02-03-2013 07:01 PM

I have been using a protein shake with 2% sugar

Not your typical breakfast but it works for me

I'm not a big cereal lover. I've always preferred dinner leftovers my whole life. However, since being diagnosed 3/28/13 with a BG of 458 I've had to tweak my diet just a little.
I tried oatmeal and my BG spiked. A good friend of mine said he tried Kashi Go Lean and his BG went down. I gave it a try and although mine didn't go down it didn't go up much either.
I keep containers of cooked barley (made with beef broth, onions, garlic & herbes de provence, lentils (made with chicken broth, onions, garlic & thyme), brown rice (chicken broth) and quinoa (chicken broth, tomatoes, onion, garlic and lots of curry powder).
I also keep containers of cooked green vegetables in the fridge.
For breakfast I'll have a cup of one of the grains, some of the vegies mixed in and a hardboiled egg. I'll also sprinkle on a tablespoon of flaxseed that I coarsely grind in an old coffee grinder.
My fasting BG has been under 100 for nearly two weeks and my post prandials have been under 140 !:D
I can't tell you how thrilled I am...

I like the original cheerios and Kelloggs flakes. Sometimes I put a couple of packets of Equal on them or fresh fruit like berries or half of a bananna.

My breakfast for today and everyday - cornflakes!

I used to have a hard time with breakfast 2 years ago. I couldn't decide what to eat for breakfast because everyday I get bored what I eat. Next day I had to decide again what to eat this time. Days after days, I left with no choice. I then eat cornflakes and amazingly I didn't get bored with it. Since 2 years, I have been taking same breakfast -

1) Cornflakes with milk
2) Juice (Orange, Apple, or Mixed fruit)

:p

breakfast

For the past three weeks I have been making smoothies with unsweetened almond milk, strawberries, blueberries, and whatever other fruits I have in the house (except bananas which I have been told not to eat). I add no carb vegetable based protein powder, some veggies like carrots, kale, etc. and toss it in my vita mix. It is satisfying, cooling in these hot temps, and easy because I can make a batch that lasts two days. Love my vita mix. Marlene

bpandya 07-19-2013 12:28 AM

I eat peeled apple cubes with low fat cottage cheese and I love it.

mlbruns79 10-26-2013 03:49 AM

Holy crap! How many carbs are you all allowed? My doctor told me 30-45 grams per meal 3 meals a day and 15-30 grams for a snack 2 snacks a day. I see people eating up to 70 for breakfast. I have such a hard time finding things to eat! 3/4 of frozen diet meals are over what I'm allowed.

yatrosp@cox.net 11-23-2013 11:51 AM

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day so I want to be sure it is interesting and hearty. Chobani nonfat peach yogurt + 1/2 Thomas' light English muffin topped with 1/4 T of Smart Balance chunky peanut butter is one great way to start the day. Another is a Weight Watchers Salted Caramel Smoothie mix with 1 cup Silk light original soy milk and the English muffin is another combination. Steel cut oatmeal with fresh blueberries/strawberries and pumpkin seeds, blanched almonds, dried cranberries is delicious too!
