Veg diet may contain foods that have too many carbs. Get a good simple listing of carbs for various foods, especially fruits if they are in your diet, how you getting your protein?

I just purchased Carb Manager from the apps store. Much better app than the one linked to Glucose Buddy. You look at the foods in their data base and enter as favorite. You also put your carbs per day goal. Then when you eat one of your favorites, it subtracts from your daily goal and enters in your log. Looks like a great app. It also shows % of daily, fat, protein etc.

I get all the protein I need eating beans and legumes. Also I eat nuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts, etc. High carb foods like potatoes can be eaten in small amounts. I usually eat one small baked potatoe, and no more than a cooking spoon of corn. I also take B12 since just about the only other place you can get it is meat. You need to do some research on the net. There is a lot of information out there. I did that and found what is working for me and you will need to do the same thing. Im 46 and was just told I had diabetes on 2/3/12. My fasting number was 204 for BG at the doctors office.

I have decided that I wanted to see if I can get it under control with diet and excerize before doing meds.

The key seems to be reducing your carb intake and getting more active based on the information. I dont want to oversimplify it so start reading and finding what may work for you.

I can tell you that my numbers have already improved. For example I took an after dinner BG last night and it was 106. This morning out of bed I was 143.

I have drastically cut carbs to less that 60 grams per day and I walk 3 miles everyday. I plan out every meal and avoid carbs as much as I can. I have noticed that my energy is improving and while the change in what I eat is difficult it is worth feeling better.

So read ,read and read some more.
